Arnold river/Cobden point surf break

Overcast with sunny spells,warm weather and waters.
Arnold flow 59 Cumecs, Cobden surf 1.5m
COE and DOIG students
Paddled the Arnold river in the morning with both first year and second year students then went to the Cobden surf break in the afternoon which was a sweet swell and surf session.

Overcast and drizzling at times a cold day.
River had a good medium flow.

My first walk in river on the coast was a challenge shouldering a boat for 45mins but not to bad, A grade 3 run with simple moves and fun lines this was an awesome trip,David Bain the winner of Sickline world white water race even ended up joining us which was sweet.A successful mission with no incidents and good times.

Matakitaki river

A very hot and sunny day.
A medium flow for Matakitaki
Boater cross.
In the morning we helped with boatercross releasing the kayakers from the raft platform at the start of the race,I caught up with an old paddling mate Tristen Rowe and we ran the matakitaki river.
Some loss of communication lead to my car not getting back to the take out but to the camp sight one learning from this day haha.

Osulivans and Maruia rivers

Grade 3 and a Waterfall.
A sweet day paddling the Osullys section of the Buller grade 3 and safety boating for my mate on Maruia falls, Tristens first attempt of the falls ended with a swim and the second ended with a hurt back unfortunately, i also did something similar to my back in November 2015 on the same waterfall,i did not get to run the drop again that weekend.Both of these incidents had great learning and safety at the bottom of most drops is essential.

The morning was a pool session improving my roll and some students learning to roll kayaks for the first time,we then went to lake Brunner and Phil had us doing sweep strokes correct forward and backward paddle strokes,edging and carving, I have taken a lot from this day and have been working on my strokes since then.

Incident: Broken rib
Rolling in the morning,then we went to the Waipuna section of the Grey river,we had Blair take our group down this section where we improved our strokes surfing and woopies,a great day,unfortunatley one of the student where impaled by a kayak and broke a rib making a difficult trip down for here,We learnt the importance of checking up stream when leaving an eddy.

Fun in the pool in the morning even a little bit of polo.
We then went to the Arnold river, Zak and Eric taking us down the river,Learnt a lot from Zak moving through eddies and making eddies with style.

Incident: One lost Go Pro of Matts unretreivable.
A really sweet run with countless sweet moments in the big water of the buller, a shame the water level wasnt higher but an awesome day.

Incidents: One swim from justin and hit to the head which was worrying when it happened but we delt with it quite good as a group,
Then another swim from Ryan right through Granity getting a bit beaten.
One lost camera and one damaged this day.Then i broke ryans phone.
As a group we then decided after a fairly shit run of luck we decided Maruia wasnt a good idea and we drove back to Greymouth.

Incidents, shuttle drives can be challenging on the coast, Simon drove off the road at one stage and both Simon and Kev got punctures.
Learning, always remember to have the correct tools for changing a spare Tyre in your car.

Crew: Me, Lucy, Jake, Cam and Jamie
Incidents, Unfortunately both Lucy and Jamie had a swim each but both were pushing themselves out of there comfort and progressed a lot during the run.
Learning, I realized that it takes experience to react and make a fast t rescue as both swims could have been avoided with some faster or more awareness from the others in the crew, overall we all learnt a lot this day and it was a sweet day on the river.

A chill afternoon spending a lot of time making moves in one of the major rapids then heading on down to the take out.

A sweet day running a short section of the Arahura 3 times with this being the biggest water (Flood run) Olivia has paddled to date it was an awesome day on the water, Unfortunately there was not many technical moves on this section but with the holes and waves throughout the run there was plenty of learning.
