My first day in a raft.The day started off at lake Brunner where we learnt basic raft strokes both client and guide,We also learnt how to up right an overturned raft and where to swim in the case of a raft flip.We then went to the Arnold river and made our way down this stretch of grade 2 river learning about safety talks and basic movements of the raft in moving water

Rafting from the power station to the meet works on the Arnold river, learning safety talks paddle talks and beginning to refine and achieve basic eddy catching in a raft on moving water.

Raft racing,Fortunately we had Ariel guiding and a solid crew as we made it to the finals didn't win unfortunately was gutted as my mate was in the winning team ha ha but a really awesome day of competition and fun on the river.

Lower matakitaki put in area.
No incidents other than bruises and scrapes from swimming amongst rocks.
This day was awesome and we learnt a lot from correct river crossing techniques,swimming in swift water,using through ropes and recoiling,Using river rescue techniques to monuver both raft and person around the river

Granity creek section of the Buller river

Rafting on the granity section of the buller we learnt more safety related issues and how to monuver a raft across a river to provide a platform for swift water rescue. We also got to run the granity rapid and granity creek section guiding some of this section.

Perfect weather for a multiday

This trip was my highlight of the first term,working together in our rafts running the rapids i have previously paddled in my kayak,the scenery was superb the team work was awesome and the food was Delicious,I got to paddle the gear raft on day two through most of the earthquake section,which was a real challenge physically but really enjoyable.One very awesome 2 day adventure on the Buller.Some images from our multiday.

UPPER GREY MULTIDAY

Multiday raft trip,Rafting grade 2 and 3 rapids.
Perfect weather.
Put in Upper blue grey river road bridge.Take out middle Waipuna take out.
Putting on on the river at 12 enjojoying the sunny skies and clear waters we made our way down the river,pushing further into the back country of the upper grey,the scenery being some of the best i have seen in the south island,Spooking massive trout and enjoying some bony but fun grade 2 2+ bolder gardens and braided sections.

The second day of our adventure started off quite cold,(remember to take some form of dry shoes on multidays) Once on the river at 9:30am we made our way down the river with much the same weather and scenery as the day before,We got of the river at 5:30pm making it a long hard day due to some rapids requiring pulling the rafts over rocks, but a very enjoyable day with an awesome crew. 


MARUIA RIVER TRIP

Weather, exceptional and warm for winter.
Put in: Boundary rd bridge.
Take out: Ruff creek
First day rafting we paddled through the afternoon on the Maruia river which was flowing at a low to medium flow, We pulled the rafts out approximatley halfway down this section of river and set up camp before the first grade 3 rapid.With a sweet bonfire and edible dinner and yarns it was a sweet evening.Picking up some guide strokes again after along time since last rafting.

An awesome day navigating our way down the rest of the river paddling the harder rapids and enjoying the weather and sights, Fortunately we came across three chamois at the last grade 3 rapid.Starting to get the hang of guiding the raft again catching the eddies and navigating down some of the more must make moves, A sweet multi day trip enjoyed by all.
